Artist Bio

Anar Studios is an independently-owned bespoke floral studio based in Queens, NY from designer Tawhida Rahman. She is a life-long New Yorker who named her studio after anar —the Bengali word for pomegranate. With the nostalgic presence of the fruit throughout her life, its compelling beauty, and the ubiquitous cultural symbolism across the eastern world, she named her studio— Anar Studios.

After studying literature and Psychology at Hunter College and working in non-profit for many years, Tawhida pivoted to the floral industry in 2021, designing alongside her peers for luxury weddings, NY Fashion Week, and large-scale productions. She started Anar Studios to share her lived experiences and curiosity through a living medium. Her work seeks to weave together old world touches and contemporary concepts, playing on memory, surrealism, and imagination. Anar Studios offers its services throughout New York City and beyond.

Notes from the Designer

Enriched by my vibrant home city, a love for art history, and the sentimental traditions of my heritage, I channel my life-long fascinations with contrasts into my creative practice—emphasizing the ornate and the minimal, the sacred and the everyday, the fleeting and the eternal. My work explores the space where flowers intersect with the human experience in order to sculpt something enduring. I seek to conjure dreamlike realms where blooms can defy reality and nature’s textures and hues become a portal for emotional and thought-provoking experiences. Experiences meant to linger with the observer. A lifelong lover of flowers and a student of the world, I see botanical art as a universal & spiritual language—delicate and ephemeral, deeply symbolic, and a vessel for storytelling.
